The Remit of Public Service Media according to the Case Law of the European Commission and the Court of EU

Summary/Abstract: In the protocol to the Treaty of Amsterdam the remit of broadcasting in safeguarding democratic, social and cultural values and preserving pluralism was underscored. The remit is essentially important for public service media in the European Union. The article discusses different approaches to determine the remit of public service media and its relationship with the funding.
