Summary/Abstract: The last fifty years had a great influence on the access to information. In Poland the national language started to dominate, slowly becoming a part of the dialect and taking its place. Migration which occurred on Polish soil after 1945 had influence on multiplicity of the different dialects and types of language on the new territories. The variety of new citizens’ languages caused the need for referencing to a standard model which could be used popularly in schools and institutions as the national language. This process has been named the “language integration” and has been widely researched and described in territories of northern and western Poland. In his article M. Szymczak notices that the new dialects were the cause of using the national language after the 2nd World War. The creation of the new dialects took place in the northern and western districts of Poland and the changes happened very quickly, almost over the course of one generation’s lifetime. The old vocabulary which appeared in those territories after 1945 is almost non-existent in the young generation’s language, or eventually became a part of their passive vocabulary. Only in the oldest generation this vocabulary is still in use and the difference between the dialects is still easy to recognize. In my thesis I decided to make the city of Elbląg the area of interest as it has not been described yet.
