Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to reconstruct the dynamics of love in the Polish language. It contains the analysis of phraseological and lexical units and grammar schemata used to depict the beginning, temporal changeability and the end of love. The diversity of conceptualisations which are at the basis of those language structures does not allow for the creation of clear models of the phases of love. Nevertheless, one can point to certain regularities in the linguistic description of each stage of love. The language units referring to the beginning of love either imply that falling in love is conditioned by one’s will or suggest something contradictory. The feeling which appears spontaneously is considered ideal and that is the reason of positive axiological load of words and phrases which refer to it. The feeling which is a result of someone’s efforts is valued in a number of ways. There are also different judgements of the effectiveness of endeavours whose aim is to influence the dynamics of an existing feeling. Language units which depict the continuous aspect of love are fewer than those which describe the beginning and the end of the feeling. Words and phrases which refer to the beginning of love as well as the lexical units whose function is to describe its end are inconsistent in terms of presenting the influence that people have on the feeling. There are units which imply that one of the inherent characteristics of love is transience and therefore its end is inevitable. On the other hand, there are also some language units which convey the notion of eternal love.
