The Semantic Limitations in Connectivity of Lexical Indices of Intensification

Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to characterization of connectivity of Polish lexical indices of intensification. The analysis of negative linguistic material leads to the conclusion, that only the gradation of words of non-binary meaning is possible. The predicates that might be used only to express occurrence or deny it (in a negative sentence) do not connect with indices of intensification. An index of intensification requires a predicate naming feature that might be referred by a speaker to different objects having this feature.
