Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the differences in functioning of the two particles - {głównie} and {przede wszystkim}. Having analysed the definitions and contexts of the lexemes, the author suggests that these differences should be examined on the basis of the way the particles choose the rhematic part of a sentence. Both of them are used to single out an element from a set of elements which are similar to one another to a certain extent but which are charecterised by a different degree of intensity of the same feature, but {przede wszystkim} additionally substantiates the choice simultaneously commenting on the way of speaking about the world.
