Summary/Abstract: Thе acticle examines the concepts of “public sector information” and “re-use of public sector information”. The legal regulation of these matters is relatively new, dating back to the last 10-12 years. In 2003, Directive 2003/98/EC was adopted, thus providing the first legal framework of the re-use of public sector information. In the period 2010-2012, public sector information was defined as “a raw material that is equally important as the capital or the workforce”, as “a currency of innovation”, and as “the vital force of knowledge economy”. These definitions were related to a considerable European economic growth estimated at EUR 140 million per year. The significance of this topic explains the need for a legal research that would trace the relevant concepts and the development of legislation in the field of public sector information and would outline the principles and objectives on which its regulation is based and should be based. The study also deals with the characteristics of Bulgarian legislation on public sector information, which are interpreted in comparison with European law.
