Summary/Abstract: Differentiated learning is based on the belief that students learn best when they make connections between the lesson and their personal experience. When involved in person, learners are more likely to participate and therefore can achieve more. Instead of "teaching for the average student", providing a form of learning for all students in the class, teachers can use differentiated learning, selecting tasks, activities and assessments that match the interests, abilities and learning preferences of their students. Differentiated learning requires planning, commitment and understanding of the different abilities, experiences and interests that influence the acquisition of knowledge by students.
