Summary/Abstract: n 1973, Romania joined The International Criminal Police Organization - Interpol. Thus, Romania became the second country in Eastern Europe, after Yugoslavia, to join this organization. Following the accession to Interpol, the Miliția (Romanian police) was appointed as the law enforcement agency to maintain permanent relations with foreign police forces. The study aims to present the domestic and international context that made this affiliation possible, as well as the bureaucratic mechanisms used by a communist state to join an international organization belonging to the Western world.
