Geo-blocking clauses on audiovisual services. Remedies

Summary/Abstract: Geo blocking is a discriminatory practice that prevents online customers from accessing and buying products or services from a website located in another member state. The European Council has repeatedly stressed the importance of the digital single market strategy and called for accelerated implementation of the strategy, which includes removing remaining barriers to the free movement of goods and services sold online and fighting against unjustified discrimination on the grounds of geographical location. I will first present the general European regulatory framework on geo blocking phenomenon circumscription and prevention measures (I), and continue with the specific manifestation of the phenomenon in the audiovisual field (II).
