Summary/Abstract: The study aims at presenting the dominant role of history in Polish-German relations from the turn of the 1980s to the current moment. The past 30 years were divided into four sub-periods, and subsequently, the dominant historical issues for each sub-period were presented. Selected examples of problems from the past and the debates that have taken place and are taking place about these very problems clearly indicate its enormous importance for the development of relations between Poles and Germans. Particular attention was paid to the construction of the monument of the Polish victims of World War II in Germany.
