Summary/Abstract: Seen as the smallest social entity, the family underlies all of society and fulfills three basic functions: procreative, educational and economic. The causes of problems for modern families include, among others, deteriorating economic conditions, i.e. high unemployment rate, low salary, an increase in both the cost of living and education. Another threat leading to the disintegration of the family is the severity of pathological phenomena e.g. alcoholism, drug addiction, domestic violence, and crime. The disappearance of the multi-generational family and a decline in the number of children per family are also noted as threats.
