CONTEMPORARY OBSERVATIONS AND SEMIOTIC ACHIEVEMENTS IN TRANSLATOLOGY

Summary/Abstract: The paper looks at contemporary theoretical issues regarding translation during a time of rapid and unpredictable linguistic development. Despite centuries of theoretical consideration and attempts to decide whether to prioritise to semantic or semantic fidelity, no one single solution has been found, and translators today face this and a numbeр of new problems. This paper examines the semiotics of translation and semiotic ideas about translatability, but also presents the contrasting theory of linguistic relativity by providing a brief philosophical-linguistic review of its supporters’ main ideas. This study aims to describe the current state of translation theory and semiotics in a clear and precise way.
