Document titles: major tendencies

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses major tendencies of compiling document titles. Among the most frequent titles there are complex nominal word groups with the genitive and constructions with the preposition dėl ('on'). These patterns of document titles have been stipulated in legal acts. Types of coining new document titles, which are not in accordance with legal acts, compete among themselves. Titles with the genitive have a future and eventually can substitute the accusative and infinitival constructions frequently avoided by language users. Very frequently, constructions with the preposition dėl in the language of documents show a tendency to oust the uncommon preposition apie ('about'); also, the construction with the preposition dėl is gradually becoming institutionalized in the titles of applications.
