Summary/Abstract: Trust (and distrust) research is an interdisciplinary area. The importance of the topic is given by the fact that trust plays a crucial role in collective thinking and collective action as well as in forms of cooperation. One of the clearly positive effects of trust is that it moderates the lackof interest in collective goals. Coping with climate change in particular is an issue that requires social commitment and joint efforts for problems solving. Conclusion of this paper, based on cross-national comparative analyses, is that commitment to pro-climate behavior is more relevant in countries characterized by higher mean levels of generalized trust among their citizens.
