RESEARCH CONCERNING THE OCCURRENCE OF DENTAL AFFECTIONS AT 11 - 12 YEARS OLD PUPILS, FROM ROMANIA RURAL AREA

Summary/Abstract: The scope of the research consisted in identifying the dental problems and their occurrence in a class of pupils from the rural area, who are part of biological families but have a medium to minimal standard of living. The biology teacher and the dentist through a scientific volunteer act offered examinations and dental treatments, recommendations and a professional dental brushing. The dental caries and bacterian plaque occurrence, as major dental problems identified at the studied subjects, has been compared to data taken from statistic registrations of a group institutionalized pupils in an urban foster home, as well as of a group of children from urban families. We concluded that at 11- 12 years old pupils from rural area there have been more dental affections with a higher rate, compared to institutionalized and monitored subjects. The fewest dental problems were found at children from urban families. We would like to draw the attention on immediate necessity of implementation of Health Education as optional course in rural schools, or using other means in order to obtain education for dental health, and also finding solutions for evaluating, monitoring, selective screening and treating these affections together with the help of public institution.
