Summary/Abstract: Emanuil Gojdu (1802-1870) has remained until today the absolute guiding mark of Romanian philanthropy, but his legacy is also a difficult subject to approach, especially because for more than a century it has generated and still generates a series of debates and controversies, kindling the national political scene, but also the Romanian-Hungarian foreign relations. Although it seems that this is an exhausted topic, the issue of the Gojdu legacy deserves to be resumed, even if only as a necessary exercise of historical memory.
