Summary/Abstract: Various analytical studies have pointed to the effectiveness of linking or integrating the health care and long-term care systems. In Czechia we have had a systemic makeshift in the health care financing: even though the ministerial Reimbursement Decree is the key regulation vehicle, seven parallel health insurance institutions have persisted, paid from a hidden trust fund, giving the impression that the health care is not tax-financed. While a part of the long-term care system is financed through the public health insurance system, the second part is financed via a structured universal cash benefit and subsidies for social services, which were due to be abolished following the introduction of the care allowance. Thus, the reform of the financing of health and long-term care is overdue, and the optimal solution is to base it on coherent public politics; four models are available: the liberal, Christian-democratic, social-democratic and neoliberal welfare regimes, their distinctions are pronounced in the long-term care financing.
