Summary/Abstract: Participating in various interventions in restoration and conservation works, I noticed that inappropriate materials are often used, with a short lifespan and which are often not compatible with the structure of the restored objectives. Thus, it gets to the point where these materials contribute to an intervention of inferior and incompatible quality, which, subsequently, can cause great damage to the restored objective. Some of the most important materials used in restoration interventions are lime-based mortars. Although used more and more intensively in restoration and conservation interventions, these mortars are little understood and often confused with each other with severe impact on restoration interventions. Thus, it is necessary to carefully check the type of lime used, the mortar recipe and the physico-chemical characteristics in relation to the intended use of the materials, as well as a very good correlation of the intervention requirements with the necessary technical solution and required execution procedures to reach a satisfactory result.
