Summary/Abstract: Translating Cultures through Literary Texts. In this article, we seek to underline the importance of cultural characteristics of a community, and to identify and explore the multitude of cases in which the translator uses literal translation, thus showing double loyalty to the original text. Even though in principle, the literal translation is considered “shameful”, there are cases in which the translator conditioned by author’s insistence to emphasize the cultural characteristics, decides to use literal translation in order to minimize the loss of cultural nuances. The cases under investigation in the present article are “Broken April”, “The Successor”, and “Chronicle in stone ” by Ismail Kadare.
