Summary/Abstract: The study of the Roman and Judaeo-Christian “legal systems” makes clear that theunderstanding of law in the western world, which provides the fundament at use ofthe legal system, was not formed by biblical testimony, but, instead by the Romanlegal tradition. On the other hand, the understanding of law in the African contextdemonstrates distinct parallels and points of reference to the Biblical model ofZedeka. The tradition of law, which we encounter in the model of Zedeka, featurescommunal and common elements, which are genuine of most African understandings of pre-colonial legal systems, which have to a certain extend still an infl uence inthat very contex
