Summary/Abstract: With the end of socialism, we are also witnessing the return of religion to the public sphere among Bosniaks. For them, Islam becomes a medium and a means of building a new identity. This paper analyzes the place of Islam in the construction of Bosniak post-socialist identity through the analysis of the formation of a new political elite and the relationship to the spiritual traditional heritage and the place of religion in education. The publicity of religion / Islam has influenced the overall social identity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, contributed to the restoration of freedom of religious non-affiliation, but in its outcomes did not receive any radically new identity references.
