Summary/Abstract: In recent years, growing income inequality has become a major problem of economic development. At the same time, countries with low GDP per capita are trying to accelerate growth in an effort to catch up with developed economies. The article aims to explore the relationship between accelerated economic growth and income inequality in the long run. Based on the historical approach and on the comparative analysis, the European countries with the highest growth rates are identified. For the period of their highest economic growth, the evolution of income inequality is analyzed. The conclusion is made that accelerated economic growth is possible while maintaining and even reducing income inequality.
