Νοῦς and νοερός in Vita Antonii Magni and in the Old Church Slavonic Literacy

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the Old Church Slavonic translations of the Greek term τὸ νοερόν in Vita Antonii Magni by St Athanasius of Alexandria. Beside the terms itself, the text is also focused on the translation variants of the Greek term νοῦς in the Old Church Slavonic versions of the Vita. Each term is first presented in the history of the Greek tradition, then in the Old Church Slavonic corpus of texts and texts that have been preserved in later manuscripts. The research aims also at discussing the theological and cultural backgrounds of the analyzed terms, thus presenting a deeper reading of the linguistic data from the three extant translations of the Vita.
