Bulgarian photographers’ debut at Fotofest biennial in Houston. Lessons and results

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the first big event with the participation of Bulgarian photographers beyond the Iron Curtain, FotoFest Biennial in Houston, USA in 1990. The study rises a number of questions: how prepared our representatives were for the big photographic scene, whether they managed to use this considerable event and the increased interest in Bulgarian representation to their advantage and how their presence at the photographic biennial reflected on their further creative development in Bulgaria at a time when the country has been shaken by serious political, economic and social transformations.
