Summary/Abstract: This article presents a method of teaching young pianists developed by Friedrich Wieck. In the history of music he is mainly known as a father of Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann’s wife, but in his own time he was an esteemed methodologist and an effective teacher. The best proof of his skills was Clara’s blooming career. The teaching method he developed is not only endearingly clear and simple, but most importantly, its implementation in practice gives tangible effects. The method expands students’ imagination, improves the piano technique, inspires and motivates them to explore on their own and boosts their self-esteem. The students achieve better results, as the foundation of a young person’s education is a holistic, multidimensional approach to the teaching process. What is important, the method can be applied not only in teaching piano players – some of the principles can be successfully applied in teaching other instruments, common subjects and general education subjects.
