Portraits of academicians - restitutions and reconstitutions

Summary/Abstract: Evoking the personality of the Romanian Academy members in volumes that unites them considering their place of birth is a project that was initiated by Mr. Liviu Mărghitan, historian and full member in The History of Science Division belonging to The Romanian Comittee for History and Philosophy of Science and Technology of Romanian Academy. This project was the very thing that made me become part of the graphic restoration of portraits, trying to highlight trough an artistic approach the very details that photography, although objective, fails sometimes to portray. More than 250 portraits that illustrate the nine volumes that have appeared until now, made use of the pencil drawing technique, having as source of inspiration black and white photographies, of small dimensions and of poor quality. I consider necessary the explanation of the reconstruction process for these images and their transformation in a gallery of ephigies having as purpose the celebration of Romanian science and culture.
