Summary/Abstract: Our paper concerns the difficulties of translating the onomatopoeia and the meaning in musicals. By focusing on the song The Merry Old Land of Oz, from the musical film The Wizard of Oz(1939), we propose to analyze the subtitle and the stage adaptation of this song in order to see if the translation choices made by the subtitler and the adapter are affected by the medium that receives the target text – the screen for one and the musical score for the other.
