Summary/Abstract: In the presented article, the authors, based on a literature review, point out the importance of crisis planning in the context of COVID-19 pandemics and massive school closures in spring 2020, when educational systems worldwide had to face an unprecedented challenge – to ensure continuity of education by means of distance learning. As most countries were not prepared for crisis and had no crisis plans, schools were not provided with sufficient guidance and often had to handle the situation on their own and take risky decisions.
