Summary/Abstract: The text passes through some classical American theories on the frontier myth (by Frederick Turner and Richard Slotkin) to discover and follow the specific mythology and meaning of the border in three Bulgarian films from the post-totalitarian period: Border, 1994, directed by Christian Nochev and Ilian Simeonov; Under the Same Sky, 2003, directed by Krassimir Krumov; The Judgement, 2014, directed by Stefan Komandarev. Geographically, it is always the southern border with Turkey. And always the same illegal crossing. Yet, the routes, purposes and fugitives are changing during the years. And with them, which path leads to the civilization, wealth or freedom; from whose viewpoint the story is told and what has changed over the decades.
