Summary/Abstract: The liturgical text of the Pentecostarion offers a hermeneutic perspective on myrrh-bearing women in the context of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a challenge for biblical scholars to discover the relationship between the biblical and the liturgical text. The two texts, biblical and liturgical, complement each other and provide the resources to discover myrrh-bearing women as the first witnesses of the empty tomb and confessors of the event of the Resurrection, through which they become like the Apostles. The liturgical text gives myrrh-bearing women several hypostases: witnesses and heralds of the Resurrection, missionaries, and disciples of the Lord. Along with the myrrh-bearing women, Joseph and Nicodemus are mentioned as witnesses to the funeral.
