Summary/Abstract: The Joint Investigation Teams' (JIT) concept was born of the belief that existing methods of international police and judicial cooperation were sometimes insufficient to deal with serious cross-border crime problems. It was considered that a team of licensed police officers and judges from two or more states, working together as a clear legal authority and certainty about participants' rights and obligations, would improve the fight against crime. A JIT is usually defined as an investigative team set up under an agreement between two or more competent authorities for a limited period of time and is not possible to set up a JIT as a permanent operational team. In this context, timing of intervention is crucial for participating countries to allocate their resources to the cause of the investigation and prosecution of the specific cross-border offense. However, JIT members will be able to make a realistic plan for the investigation and create an action that will allow for the necessary investigation time to some extent. In this article, we will present the importance of the joint investigation teams, the legal basis for their constitution as well as the training stages, from the request for the establishment of a joint investigation team to the closure and evaluation of the JIT's work.
