CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF DOCUMENTS OF THE PRIZREN DISTRICT COURT

Summary/Abstract: In the State Agency of Archives of Kosovo, among many funds, the Fund is maintained by the District Court of Prizren. It is known that for the funds of the courts the term of preservation is permanent, therefore their conservation and restoration is necessary. These documents are damaged by physical, chemical and biological factors. This fund is being digitized, its conservation and restoration has also started, and partially the adjust meant is being carried out. Based on the composition of paper and cellulose fibers, a necessary condition for paper and its store age is also neutrality. The majority of documents from this fund in chemical term shave gained high basic values because the documents have absorbed moisture, while the acidity of the documents so far we have not encountered. Therefore, these documents are being treated with the aim of neutralizing and regenerating cellulose fibers, as much as possible in the conditions we have in the conservation and restoration laboratory. The fund is being processed with great difficulty both with the lack of necessary material as well as with the risk to health on an ongoing basis. We, the Archival Material Protection Service, have examined in detail and have come to the conclusion that this fund is possible to be preserved and restored. Therefore, we will try to overcome all the difficulties as soon as possible to complete and maintain this fund in optimal conditions which are defined in the archives for both temperature and relative humidity.
