RAISING THE LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF THE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION STAFF FOR THE PROTECTION OF ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTATION

Summary/Abstract: Public administration institutions as well as the public-private and private institutions create a large amount of archival documents during their activity. These documents are an important our of information for the function in both these institutions, but later also an important source for research, scientific and historical activity. The documents created during the work activity of public institutions are the basis of the information necessary for staff to accomplish their work tasks, starting from the daily, weekly, monthly and annual ones, as well as in many work processes during the decision making. On this basis, creators and holders of archival records should pay special attention to the preservation and protection of archival materials created in the course of their professional activity. The national legal provisions and international standards for the management of archival records regulate the procedures for the management of archival records in the classical form, on paper and in electronic form from the moment of creation, storage, use and until it's submission to the competent archives. For creators, records are preserved within the legal deadlines. The staff who creates records keeps them in his/her manual archive (work office) for two years, then submits them to the archives repository of the respective institution with descriptions, except those documents that are needed for operational work.
