Summary/Abstract: To grasp the importance of digitalizing archival materials, it is necessary to understand the purpose of this process that has revolutionized the public’s access to documentation. For this reason, thanks to the deepening in the literature, this paper, divided into two chapters, first performs an analysis of the advantages that digitalization has enabled, as the most contemporary form of access to archival property. Then, in order to guarantee an empirical view, a special space will be devoted to the examination of the new philosophy of interaction adapted by the computer use of information between the citizen / researcher and the institution that preserves and puts the documentary arsenal on standby. In terms of practice, will be considered a study addressed to a sample of 2000 researchers ordering or reviewing archival content in digital form, registered in the Study Room of the General Directorate of Archives (DPA), since January 2019, time that marks the turning point in the use of documentation. In the course of technological development in many disciplines, speed, high image quality and immediate availability, have become part of the lexicon of archivism of this century. In addition to the above-mentioned features, digitalization aims above all to ensure maximum longevity and inviolability of the physical integrity of early documents. In this view, in the first chapter it will be pointed out that through the diversification of material transmission channels, the progress of research work has been impacted.
