Summary/Abstract: The 21st century has created new anthropological premises which pose different challenges for translators. Digital technology coupled with the scientific progress registered in all domains of human interaction, the setting up of the EU, the development of multinational institutions and businesses have increased the number of people working in translation and the number of translated pages at an unprecedented rate. The present paper seeks to lay bare the present EC action plan directives for translators and the increased demand for non-literary translations. Amid this upsurge of non-literary translation demand, the paper looks at the text-translation relation, highlights some characteristics of non-literary texts and suggests ways of dealing with their translation.
