Foreign direct investments -impact on Macedonian small and medium sized enterprises

Summary/Abstract: The benefits from foreign investments, which accrue in the form of increased employment, forward and backward linkages and technological spillovers, crucially depend on the type of multinational activity that is attracted. Due to the above mentioned, the common conclusion is that in the Macedonian case, the Greenfield investments are the optimal choice for foreign market entry. But, the Macedonian government should not forget that cross-border mergers and acquisitions are becoming increasingly a form of international corporate restructuring and that is a trend that is likely to continue in the following years.
