Narcissus at the Museum: A Postmodern Adventure

Summary/Abstract: Kurz explores how historical exhibitions at narrative museums are experienced (the first one in Poland was the Warsaw Rising Museum, which opened in 2004). On the one hand she highlights the assumptions on which these exhibitions are founded, their intentional construction, the message they suggest and what reactions they anticipate on the viewers’ part. On the other hand Kurz examines the mechanisms that are external to the museum’s message – mechanisms related above all to the effects of the media and the logic of capitalism, which affects the work of museums and exhibitions.
