Summary/Abstract: Translating Creangă’s works into Italian proves to be a demanding undertaking due to the great differences between the two languages at the level of linguistic registers. The Italian language was formed in an urban, cultured environment, which is why it hardly lends itself to representing the simple life of peasants who, in Italian space, express themselves in dialect. In Romanian, this linguistic and cultural stratification does not exist. Starting from these premises, the present paper, focused on the analysis of the Italian version of one of the most famous Creangă’s stories (Capra cu trei iezi), aims at identifying the specific elements of Romanian popular culture existing in the corpus of analysis and at illustrating the strategies used by Anna Colombo in translating the story into Italian. The study will refer to some of the Romanian researches dedicated to the concept of cultureme and its role in the linguistic mediation and it will focus on the typology of culturemes developed in the Hispanic space by Lucia Molina.
