Summary/Abstract: The author looks at the history of the Museum of Art in Łódź from its formation to the present day in the context of the existence of the International Collection of Modern Art and its subsequent fate. The most important questions, which she tries to answer are: was the Museum of Art in Łódź able to take advantage of the myth of the avant-garde, and if so, how? Did the subsequent directors of the Museum contribute anything to the concept of the Strzemiński Collection? What changes has the Museum undergone under the management of successive directors?
