Summary/Abstract: Information about the COVID-19 pandemic constitutes the majority of the airtime in the evening TV news programs in Poland in 2020. The aim of this work is an analysis of commonly used metaphors referring to SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and infected people. The first part of the paper defines the concept of a metaphor. The second part of the work consists of a review of literature related to metaphors of diseases caused by different viruses such as HIV, Ebola or SARS. In the third part Polish evening TV news programs are analyzed. The chosen programs are „Wiadomości” and „Fakty”, both of them being the most watched news services in Poland. Eight groups are identified among the most frequently used metaphors. Those being metaphors related to: war and struggle, time and natural disasters. The result of the research is identification of a specific language used in media to describe COVID-19.
