Summary/Abstract: Kunz explores Stanisław Barańczak’s villanella “Co mam powiedzieć” [What shall I say?] that opens the volume Widokówka ztego świata [A Postcard from this World]. The focus is on formal aspects of versification and rhythm/sound, such as consonance, assonance, alliteration, homophony and homography, apparent slips of the tongue and paronomasia. Kunz demonstrates that the poem is constructed on the principle of repetition with encroaching sonoric or graphic shifts that indicate something that cannot become present either in language or in space or time. Kunz tries to show how poetics give rise to complex signifying effects and how this problematises the relationship between speech and writing, communication disruptions, the philosophy of language, and ultimately fundamental ontological and theological issues.
