Summary/Abstract: Głowiński compares two outstanding poems about war disablement: Leśmian’s ballad Żołnierz [The Soldier] and Różewicz’s poem Zaraz skoczę szefie [I’ll Jump, Boss]. They share the key motif of hopping instead of walking, for both protagonists had their legs damaged in the war. In Leśmian’s ballad fantasy is used to express historical elements, while in Różewicz it is a partisan scene. The way we think about disability has shifted over the last few years, but what were the possibilities available in this regard to the poets of the first half of the twentieth century?
