Summary/Abstract: The article deals with transformation of relations between Soviet Russia and the USSR on the one side and the Holy See on the other from the Bolshevik Revolution in November 1917 until the outbreak of World War II in September 1939. It presents important personalities, milestones and friction areas of mutual contacts. It is based on extensive materials from the Historical Archive of the State Secretariat of the Holy See, as well as numerous foreign literatures, especially English, Italian and German.
