Relativism and ethnocentrism with education for cultural values

Summary/Abstract: The issue of approaching values in the framework of education proves, according to the author, complicated enough given the contemporary cultural context, strongly marked by positivist mentalities, characterized by the reduction of reality to measurable and controllable facts, while the metaphysic dimension is considered to be a rhetorical discourse lacking rigorous scientific data. Placing values dimension predominantly depending on the factual reality may prove unproductive, both within the western culture and in its dialogue with other cultures based on different or even opposed traditions and reference systems.
