Summary/Abstract: The article briefly summarizes the situation of canon law science in the academic sphere in the Czech Republic, proposes the need for revision of the current translation of the Code of Canon Law of 1983 and the addition of a systematic commentary on individual canons. Furthermore, it outlines the prospects of canon law science in specific areas and approaches: Canon law science can continue to explore the Church not only as a stable institution, but as an event that unfolds through the active interaction of all Christians, not only clerics, but also lay people as the people of God on the way, and at the same time examine the role of human rights in the world and in the Church. Canon law science can continue to be not only in the service of the universal Church, but also particular churches, and in addition it can discover the kingdom of God among those who still live outside the institutional Church.
