Summary/Abstract: The 60th anniversary of the United Nations Organization and the 50th anniversary of Romania's membership to the United Nations is a good opportunity for the author to analyze and reflect upon the high world forum, particularly in terms of human rights. A lot more than the sum total of its members, the United Nations Organization has a huge potential and it is in the interest of mankind to put to value this potential in the service of human rights, development, security and peace. The role of the organization can and shall undergo the changes imposed by the adaptation to the new global conditions and challenges. After reviewing the developments during the 60 years of activity, the author refers to the projects meant to reform the organization, the results in this respect of the summit of September 2005, the outcomes of the General Assembly reunions in the period after the summit, the first measures adopted in late 2005 in this respect and the future of the reform.
