Summary/Abstract: After World War II, Fascist and Nazi parties were banned in Western Europe. This was also the case in Italy, where the prohibition was included in the new Constitution, amongst others. Nevertheless, at the beginning of the Cold War era, a new party professing openly fascist / neo-fascist principles was born, the Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI), which functioned legally, issued official newspaper(s), started in elections, and – with the help of its Parliament's representatives and senators – sometimes had a serious influence on the Italian politics. This study, through the role of MSI in its main personalities, programme and role in terrorism, examines whether the party should be considered as fascist / neo-fascist.
