Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of 2006, Rabbi Karol Efraim Sidon came up with a suggestion for preparing the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the death of the Maharal – Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel. The original idea was to have a year-long programme of research, educational and cultural events in order to reach the broadest possible audience, but this idea was soon dropped. It became apparent that such an ambitious project was beyond the organizational and, above all, financial scope of both the Prague Jewish Community and the Jewish Museum in Prague (JMP). In the middle of 2006 it was therefore agreed that the Prague Jewish Community would prepare a conference while the Jewish Museum would hold an exhibition for the anniversary. Many other events took place in Prague and elsewhere in Bohemia and Moravia, some of which involved the Jewish Museum in an advisory capacity.
