Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to interpret the character of Anne Shirley in terms of gender studies, mainly taking into account such an issue as the pro‑feminist element in the work of Lucy Maud Montgomery herself, which had an impact on the creation of a new type of heroine breaking the 19th‑century Victorian patterns of that time. Another reading from Anne of Green Gables resulted in a completely new text of culture, Anne with an E (Netflix, CBC), extracting forgotten or unread voices from the pages of novels. The author of the article compares specific situations from the book with TV series’ moments and their mutual impact on the transmitted content and to the constant emancipation of the main character.
