Summary/Abstract: The Cinema Centar building (formerly the "Colosseum", "Proleter") was built until 1912 as one of the first purpose-built cinemas in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The facility was built on a location of exceptional importance. Within a radius of 200 meters there are four immovable properties, national monuments. For a city like Tuzla, which has systematically lost its historical monuments partly due to land sinking and partly due to a lack of understanding of the impact that architectural heritage has on the overall identity of the city, the process of protecting architectural heritage is essential. Previous interventions in the form of interpolation of buildings into the existing historical core were most often not aimed at preserving the historical importance, memory of the place, and architectural heritage, which resulted in the devaluation of the area. The Cinema Centar building is one of the few, authentic witnesses of an era that no longer exists, and at a time when protection is giving way to imitation, emphasis needs to be placed on research into authenticity and revaluation. Since the 1980s, the Centar cinema building has been in a state that requires the implementation of urgent protection measures, but due to the lack of financial resources, unresolved property and legal relations and negligence, the building has been seriously endangered for the last 20 years, and the citizens are threatened by the possibility of collapsing of certain parts of the building.
